The Perfect Beach Day in Buxton, NC – June 22, 2025

I woke up around 7 to the usual — Olivia and the kids pretending to be quiet, but really, they want me up. Every one of them. So I can do what I do best: lead the adventure.

The old Land Cruiser’s not running great, and it was weighing on me. For a second I thought, Maybe we’ll just walk behind the motel today.

But it’s Sunday — and around here, Sundays mean something different. It’s not a testosterone-filled surf session at dawn or a buggy wade into the sound at dusk. It’s family day. It’s when Buxton shows up for what really matters.

And today… was a miracle.

The Gulf Stream pushed in, bringing that rare, glassy turquoise water that usually stays miles offshore. The kind only the OBX locals and surf-lifers know to look for — and quietly celebrate when it shows up.

If you know, you know: the Outer Banks gives you just enough to keep you hooked. And when you drift, she pulls you deeper. Much like my relationship with God, that same quiet Spirit showed up today.

Zade caught his first wave all by himself. Rainbow swam for nearly an hour — a true water baby. And Olivia is easing back into the rhythm of surfing, one session at a time, after carrying and caring for new life.

The magic wasn’t just in the ocean — it was in the way the whole beach felt it. Not just the seasoned surfers in the ego-thick lineup, but the kids, the moms, the grandparents.
That joy — our joy — washed over everyone today.

It was the kind of beach day that reminds you why we’re still here.

And somehow… the stars aligned.
The old truck made it there and back — one more surf trip.
Little sandy feet were safely tucked into bed.
Sunburned heads hit pillows.
And hearts were full.
